Hurricane Irma

We, our three children and two boats did survive Hurricane Irma!

Our marina community helped us prepare. We spent two full days positioning the boats, battening down everything imaginable and helping others with their preparations.

Then it got eery. Bottled water became scarce.

Peanut Butter preferences were glaringly apparent. The Creamy Jif Natural was wiped out.

Chipotle closed its doors.
And things got REAL.

The night of the storm, we stayed at a local hotel a friend had offered, rather than try to "out run" the weather by fighting the teeming interstate. Our family and friends felt at ease once we vacated the boat, but in all honesty, the second story hotel room was a bit unnerving during the numerous tornado warnings. Hello-- we're from the Midwest and we don't mess around when it comes to tornado warnings!

The children slept straight through the wind and sheeting rain.

First thing, the next morning, we returned to the marina (after outwitting the local officials and their blockades).

To our delight, our boats, the marina and friends were all fine!

The weather continued in intensity the entire day after.

We thoroughly inspected our boats and friends' boats. We sent photos to those who were not present or able to return.

The kids were eager to help with cleanup despite the 50mph (with gusts up to 70mph) winds.

A collective I Survived Irma dinner sealed the experience away forever in our hearts.
