NORMAN’S CAY—STARRING ORLI

From Palm Cay we sailed 8-9 hours to Norman’s Cay in the northern Exumas.

We’re the blue dot.
We arrived at night. Our GPS and the lit anchor lights of fellow cruisers guided us in. We anchored just to the west of the airstrip.

The airstrip is on the southern part of the island.
With good weather ahead of us, our main goal was to see the highlights of Norman’s and the next several Exuma islands.

The following day (at low tide), we loaded the kids into the dinghy and headed out to find the famous awash airplane—a partly submerged artifact of Carlos Lehder’s drug-smuggling era.

This eerie place is where our four-year-old fully embraced snorkeling!

Before we had purchased a child’s full face mask from the Minnesotan family, we had Orli try it on. It seemed too big, but we went ahead and bought it for Zion—with the plan that he would pass his other mask down to her. When he said he wanted to stick with his old mask, we thought we would try the new one on Orli again. With a salty wet face—it magically fit!

She strapped on her fins and and took her first real peek into a new, enchanting, underwater world! She giggled uncontrollably! It was incredible!
We all made several loops around and through the aircraft. The fish were just as interested in us as we were in them.

The only way we could lure her back into the dinghy was by assuring her we would snorkel the next day too!

She left the snorkeling site in a very pensive state.

We were thrilled she did it—and LIKE A BOSS!

More snorkeling adventures—coming up!
