Day 2

Drone photo of our first time at anchor!
We departed Daytona Beach a bit late after a lengthy conversation with one of the dockhands about a fellow employee who was is critical condition after a recent motorcycle accident. He said his name is Andrew, and he’s 29 years old. We are believing for his recovery so he can get back to work (where he is dearly missed) and home to his seven year-old boy!

Once we set out, at about 8:50am we headed directly under the Port Orange Bridge.

Highlights:

• Beautiful, crystal green-blue waters
• Ponce Inlet Lighthouse
• Mini Statue of Liberty
• Pelican Rookery
• Dolphins—all day, right next to our boat and at one point there were three surfacing at once!
• Manatee sightings
• Kennedy Space Center
• Barge with digger
• NASA Causeway Bascule Bridge and NASA Railway Bridge
• First time anchoring
• Trying out our dehydrated veggies with dinner

Haulover Bridge Canal
Mosquito Lagoon was intense and interesting to maneuver with its blustery 2-foot (or greater) swells, but then in the calm waters of the Haulover Bridge Canal area we reached our top speed of 8 knots!

Anchoring was a brand new and incredible experience for us. It felt familiar in a way... similar to camping (seemingly distant from civilization, but you could get there if necessary). We were excited to spend the night just passed the NASA Railway Bridge which headed directly into Kennedy Space Center. The bonus was discovering we were anchored right next SPACE CAMP!

We’re the blue dot—right next to Cape Canaveral...

and Space Camp!
We finished setting the anchor and had dinner by sunset. Then we played a new travel version of Memory compliments of the nice people from our favorite toy store in Saint Augustine, Olde Towne Toys.

OK - the drone is way cool. Probably a mistake on my part for not getting one before we left. You guys look great, the boat looks great, and so far the trip sounds terrific. Good luck and stay safe! Sit tight if any of that fierce wind from up north gets near you. Tom (C Ghost)
