Day 6Another first—we had our boat hauled out! Translation: Ten thousand pounds+ of pure boat and provisions brought up out of the water and placed onto dry land. And they (Cracker Boy Boat Works, aka CBBW) did it like it was no big deal! Our boat only required two straps (shown above and below). The boatyard operators told me each strap is rated to lift 66,000 pounds, but they never load more than half that weight on any single strap. The coolest part—all the maneuvering was done via remote-control! Zion was fully engaged. The haul-out was incredible, the facility was incredible, and yes, the crew was incredible! They somehow turned an experience into the complete opposite of what I had heard stories about! There was nothing to be nervous about. Everything went smoothly. Oscar, on the yard for 27 years, immediately took us under his fin, supplying us with all the crucial boatyard-life beta. He also provided a very rare set of actually stairs (since we have kids) rather than the typical tied-on, sketchy ladder system. The stairs were such a bonus! Then—the work began!

Each time we've had our boat pulled out of the water they only use two straps as well. No mater how many times I see it done, my stomach turns the whole time.
