The larger and older boat was a Mason 41 built by Trident Shipyards in 1962 in Chicago, Illinois. It was mahogany, glassed-over at the time of production.
To begin, we cleaned the v-berth, head, galley and main salon. The aft cabins remained mini-storage units for miscellaneous parts and tools for several months. We hauled out loads of trash, grime, etc. tallying up four trips to the local transfer station. Once all the excess junk was out of the way, we scrubbed all the mold away and applied a natural mold inhibitor.
Somewhere in there we discovered 26 leaks which we immediately began to repair. The deck became the focus of our attention. I️t had to be tented with large tarps while sanding and repairing fiberglass, wood and paint, to keep dust from polluting the water. During that process, the kids and I️ organized on the S2 to avoid the construction debris.
After the leaks were resolved and the dust cleared, we installed all new upholstery.
A huge shout out to my dad for coming all the way down here from Missouri to help out!
